Hello Cryptominers! In this guide, I am going to show you how you can build a profitable Monero mining rig for you.
Mining cryptocurrencies are one of the best ways to earn them. And building a profitable mining is important to get the better ROI (Return On Investment).
To build this profitable monero mining rig I am using AMD Vega GPU cards. Why? AMD Vega cards give the best performance mining Moneo/Cryptonight algorithm. They produce best hash rates for the CryptoNight Algorithm. More the hash rates more the profit. Simple!
As I mentioned I am building this mining rig for mining Monero. You can also mine other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum. AMD is also best in mining Ethereum.
But, We all know Ethereum’s mining difficulty is skyrocketed nowadays. making Ethereum difficult to mine each day.
Monero is one of the most profitable minable cryptocurrency these days. Monero uses a CryptoNight algorithm. And the rig we are building will give you the best performance mining CryptoNight.

But before we start..
Why should You Mine Monero?
MONERO (XMR) is a privacy-focused coin which currently sits around the top 10 of Cryptocurrencies by coinmarketcap.
Mining Monero can be a profitable venture due to its cryptographic algorithm which is resistant to ASIC’s mining.
This means that anyone with a CPU or GPU can mine Monero. These are the few points I would like to mention which I have experienced by mining Monero. –
- More Profit: Mining Monero is more profitable than Ethereum. Profit is what we are looking for right? Check the calculations here.
- Less Electricity: Mining Monero can consume less electricity than Ethereum.
- Less Heat: If you are mining Ethereum using the same rig you will notice that the Rig is generating more heat. But while mining Monero the temperature of the rig will down by 13 to 16 ºC.
So, We are going to build an 8GPU Monero mining rig. I’ll make sure to keep our mining rig cost low as much as possible.
Components Required for Monero Mining Rig?
Building a mining rig is same as assembling a computer. Only with more than one GPU cards. More the GPU cards you used more the hash-rates rig will generate.
More hash-rates = more profit.
We are building a GPU based mining rig. For this mining rig, I am using AMD Vega GPU cards. Vega card gives best performance mining Moneo. (CryptoNight algorithm)
AMD RX Vega series is the best for mining Monero/CryptoNight algorithm. I am using Vega 56 to keep our investment low. Vega 56 and Vega 65 will produce same hash rates for CryptoNight algorithm i.e 1850H/s.
You can even buy RX Vega 64 by spending more. Remember Vega 64 have more resale value than 56.
We are building 8 GPU mining rig. So you’ll need to purchase 8 number of AMD RX Vega 56 8GB GPU cards. You can also purchase less number of cards and add later. Our Rig is upgradable.
You can buy MSI Redon GPUs. They are most popular one for mining. But MSI cards are mostly shortage due to high demand. As an alternative, you can use Sapphire Cards. They give the same performance as MSI.
Single GPU will produce around 1850H/s. We are using 8 GPUs. So, Our mining rig will produce around 14800 H/s.
For this mining rig, we are going to use GIGABYTE GA-H110-D3A Motherboard. The motherboard has 6 PCIe Slots. We have 8 GPUs right? For those extra GPUs, you’ll need to buy m2.0 PCIe extender. This is a very popular and cheap motherboard for mining.
My another favorite motherboard for mining rig is ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ 13GPU Mining Motherboard. You can use this one also. In case you are planning to build your mining rig with more than 8 GPU cards. Or to extend in the future.
The above-mentioned motherboard supports DDR4 RAM. For this mining rig, 4 GB of RAM is more than sufficient. RAM does not affect out mining speed. It is the component only required to keep our rig on.
So do not spend more for 8GB RAM.
The Motherboard has LGA1151 Socket. For this mining rig, Intel Celeron is always the best option.
Purchasing a higher CPU will increase our mining rig cost. And we are not using CPU for mining.
I prefer SSD over HDD. Yes! SSD’s are bit expensive but in comparison to HDD, they are only a few more bucks to invest.
By using SSD’s you will increase processing speed and reduce the transfer time. SSD will only be used to run your OS and mining software.
I use SanDisk SSD Plus they are pretty cheap and reliable.
You will need 2 PSU.
Mining rigs are hungry for power. You are going to use 8 GPU cards. Each GPU will consume approx 190W of power supply.
Our 8 GPU cards all together will consume around 1520W.
The whole mining rig will consume approx 1820W of the power supply. To fulfill this requirement I recommend using two 1000W of power supply units.
Buying extra supply is always a best option.
#6 Riser cards
Risers card are used to connect the Graphics card to the motherboard. RISERS are easy to install. Connect GPU card on RISER and connect the Riser to the motherboard.
You will need 8 RISERS cards. One for each GPU card.
#7 PSU Adapter:
You are using 2 numbers of power supply for our mining rig. To run those two PSUs simultaneously you are going to need an adapter cable. To connect the both PSU.
These adapters are pretty cheap don’t waste on buying this cable individually – Buy it with the other components.

#8 Mining Rig
Using a mining rig is always a better idea. Do not keep the components on the floor. You can buy a rig from Amazon directly.
But you know what? You can build one for your self. That way you can save some more bucks!! When you order the products form the Amazon it will take some time to deliver. Till you can create a one good mining rig frame.
You are going to use 8 GPU card. So you need to create a big one. You need to make sure that all the components like GPU, Motherboard, 2PSU, etc will fit well. Post an image of your mining rig on our Facebook page. We would love to see what you have created.
Make sure that there is enough air flow.
#9 Power Buttons:
Last but not least!! A power cable. These cables are required to turn our rig on or off
Buy ATX Power switch. These small wires with a button attached well go directly to the motherboard. You can turn ON/OFF the rig with the button. Try to buy these with other components that way you will cut out the shipping charges.
Small but important!!!
That’s all we need.
10. Linux or Windows ?
You can use either Windows or Linux operating system for your mining rig. I am using Linux It’s opensource and easy to use. Download Ubuntu

My Monero mining rig is making me profit of ~$390/month. I am going to hold these coins until the price of Monero will go high. You can build your own strategies. But remember mining Monero on this build will make you more profit.

Low on a budget? Start with the lower number of GPU then periodically increase them as you earn. You can always use this mining rig to mine Ethereum, Monero, Bitcoin, etc.
